Barbie film series

Since her film debut in 1987 in "", Barbie has been a virtual actress starring in several feature films and short films. After a fourteen year absence, Mattel commissioned Barbie to be featured as a heroine of several princess or fairy themed stories to accompany a franchise of related dolls and accessories.

Since the release of "Barbie in the Nutcracker" in 2001, Kelly Sheridan has consistently provided the speaking voice to Barbie to almost all films.

Nutcracker

In 2001, "Barbie in the Nutcracker" was released. The film is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King". It received extremely high sales, prompting the continuation of the series.

Rapunzel

In 2002, "Barbie as Rapunzel" came out, based on the story by the Brothers Grimm and starring Anjelica Huston. It received generally positive reviews.

wan Lake

"Barbie of Swan Lake" was released in 2003. The story is loosely adapted from the Swan Lake ballet and features the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The Princess and the Pauper

"Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper" was launched and promoted as "Barbie's first musical" in 2004. This release was heavily marketed and even had its own float in the 2004 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It is loosely based on the Mark Twain story "The Prince and the Pauper". It is not, however, related to the 1939 film "The Princess and the Pauper".

Magic of Pegasus

"Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus", released in 2005, is a variable of the Princess rescuing the prince theme.

My Scene Goes Hollywood

Beginning in 2003 with the "My Scene" line, dolls began to be packaged with DVDs that contained short video clips, music, and activities. Two My Scene short films, "Jammin In Jamaica" & "Masquerade Madness" were both packaged with a doll and sold exclusively via this means. The initial success of the My Scene line led to "My Scene Goes Hollywood", a full-length film which was released as a Direct to video DVD. All three My Scene films have been aired on the Nickelodeon cable channel.

Barbie Diaries

"The Barbie Diaries" features Barbie as a teenager who starts a band with her best friends, and comes into the possession of a seemingly magical diary. This Barbie however, is not to be confused with the My Scene version which was eventually rereleased as "Kennedy". The film was released in 2006.

12 Dancing Princesses

"Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses" (2006) is loosely based on the fairytale "The Twelve Dancing Princesses."

The Island Princess

2007's "Barbie as the Island Princess" places Barbie on an island in the Pacific Ocean.

The Diamond Castle

"Barbie and the Diamond Castle" was released on September 9, 2008. It was marketed and promoted as "Barbie's first best friends movie"; the film co-stars Teresa, a doll from the main toyline. It is the first movie in the series since Swan Lake in which the film's events are told in the form of a story by the main Barbie character, although this time the story is told to her sister Stacie (whereas previously, Barbie told the stories to her sister Kelly).

A Christmas Carol

"Barbie in a Christmas Carol" is scheduled for a 2008 release.

leeping Beauty

"Barbie as the Sleeping Beauty" is scheduled for a 2009 release.

Barbie as Thumbelina

Barbie opens a magical story of a tiny girl,Thumbelina.Thumbelina lives in a flower garden with her bestfriend.But oneday an enchanted creature with sharp teeth destroys their home.Then they journey to find a new home,to see a huge house.They went inside(they didn't know that it is a doll house),but shock to see toys and dolls which owned by a spoiled girl,Macaenna.Join Barbie as she tells a story about a tiny girl,discover new friendship,and learned that small ones can make a big difference.
