Kinch is an indie pop band from Phoenix, Arizona. Their sound has been described as brusque power pop, [ [http://media.www.laloyolan.com/media/storage/paper803/news/2005/11/30/Entertainment/Lmu-Artists.Rock.Out.Lmusic.Cd.Review-1115575.shtml "LMU Artists Rock Out: LMUsic CD Review", "The Los Angeles Loyolan"] 30 November, 2005.] "an alt-rock pop style reminiscent of a few Brit bands, hearkening back to the sensibilities of '60s garage rock" [ [http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2008/06/kirkwood_dellinger_ep_release.php "phoenixnewtimes.com", "Phoenix New Times"] ] Their pop sound has drawn comparisons to Coldplay and the The Strokes, while others have likened them to Ben Folds, The Arcade Fire and Oasis. History

Kinch formed in 1999 when cousins Andrew Junker and Brian Coughlin began writing and recording music with childhood friend Jake Malone, while the three were attending Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix. A few years later, the band recorded a demo EP "Corinth" while attending separate colleges across the country. While on break, they convened in Los Angeles and gigged around Los Angeles clubs The Knitting Factory and The Silverlake Lounge.

Upon graduation in 2006, Kinch relocated to their hometown Phoenix, Arizona at the suggestion of mentor John Hartmann (former manager of America, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Eagles) in order to pursue the band full time.

In 2007, they self-released their first single, "Londontown", which was produced by Craig Schumacher (Neko Case, Calexico) at Wavelab Studios in Tucson, Arizona.

Kinch have performed live on air on KXLU 88.9FM Los Angeles, Arizona State University's The Blaze 1260AM KASC, and The Edge 103.9FM KEDJ.

They played The Edge 103.9FM 's annual EdgeFest with Jimmy Eat World, the Plain White T's, Hot Hot Heat, and The Bravery. [ [http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2008/07/podcast_kinch.php "Up on the Sun: Kinch", "phoenixnewtimes.com"] ]

In April of 2008, following in the footsteps of Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead, Kinch self-released their debut album, "Advances", for free via the internet. "Advances" was produced and engineered by Alex Pasco (The French Kicks, The Little Ones, Resident Hero). The album's sound has been described as a "Spector-ish Wall of Sound with great vocal melodies." [ [http://phxagenda.com/2008/05/kinch-advances/ "Kinch: Advances", "The Phoenix Agenda"] , 28 May, 2008] Another reviewer writes, "each tune brims with Beatles-esque melodies, lush keyboard and guitar soundscapes and a deft touch for catchy song craft" [ [http://getoutaz.com/story/4025 "Is Kinch Any Good? Ask a Tuned-In Sound Man", "GetOutAZ.com"] , 23 July, 2008]
