naturalist ,writer and broadcaster, as well as a former Bomber Command pilotHe was a prolific writer of over twenty books and numerous articles. He is particularly noted for his books in the Collins
New Naturalist series, having written four - WoodlandBirds in 1971, British Thrushes in 1978, British Warblers in 1985 and British Larks, Pipits & Wagtails in 1992.He was a passionate believer in bringing natural history to a wider audience, and was a resident naturalist at the
BBC . He is credited with starting the Countryside radio programme in 1952, He has made over 7,000 radio and TV broadcastsHe was featured briefly in the documentary film
Metro-land (TV) made byJohn Betjamin about the Metropolitan railway line running northwest out of London. He was featured birdwatching inGladstone Park , near to his home inDollis Hill .Eric retired to live in
