History Curriculum at the Gregorian University

The Faculty of History and the Cultural Patrimony of the Church was created at the Gregorian University to investigate and understand the history and the life of the Church, as well as to study and to preserve the historical and artistic Patrimony of the Christian Tradition. The Faculty aims to form professors and researchers in the field of History and Cultural Patrimony of the Church. The professors and students of the Faculty, aware of the profound reality of the mystery of the Church and drawing directly on all available sources, have the task of uncovering and presenting the genuine History of the Church, and bringing to light for appreciation and study the spiritual and cultural inheritance of its entire historical-artistic Patrimony. The Structure of the Faculty

The Faculty of History and the Cultural Patrimony of the Church has Three Cycles, and in addition a Master. The First Cycle, for the Baccalaureate, lasts three years (a first level degree); the Second Cycle, for the Licentiate, two years; the Third Cycle is the Doctorate. The Master consists of two semesters and corresponds to one academic year.

The First Cycle is structured in "two Programs". "The first", is designated Common, and lasts three years and is obligatory for all ordinary students. "The second" Program is called Integrative (Integrativo), and lasts for two semesters (one year) and is available to students who already possess a university degree equal to the Baccalaureate (or the equivalent). The First Cycle concludes with the conferral or the academic title: Baccalaureate in History and Cultural Patrimony of the Church.

The Second Cycle is structured into two Sections. The first Section concerns the History of the Church, while the seoncd concerns the Cultural Patrimony of the Church. Each Section has its own proper academic title: License in History of the Church and License in the Cultural Patrimony of the Church.

The Third Cycle also is structured into two Sections, each one with its own proper academic title or rather, Doctorate in History of the Church or Doctorate in the Cultural Patrimony of the Church.

In the Master Program, the course of study is only for the degree in Cultural Patrimony of the Church obtaining the academic title: Master in Cultural Patrimony of the Church. [Pontificia Università Gregoriana:"Ordo Anni Academici 2007-2008", Gregoriana Publicità, 2007]
