Mandy Telford (born 5 June 1976) was President of National Union of Students (United Kingdom) from 2002 to 2004, having served the previous two years as President of NUS Scotland. She was the fifth woman to hold the NUS presidency and was twice elected as the Labour Students candidate.

Early life

She attended the prestigious Scottish private school Dollar Academy and was educated at the University of Strathclyde. For the final year of her Education course (1999-2000) she was vice-President of the Students' Association at the Jordanhill campus.

From 2000-1, she served as NUS Scotland's Women's Officer before being elected to consecutive one-year terms as NUS Scotland President.

NUS President

As President of National Union of Students (United Kingdom), Telford led the campaign against the government's controversial policy to charge university top-up fees, becoming a regular writer for The Guardian and a broadcaster on BBC Radio 5 Live.

She went on to work for the British trade union Amicus (now part of UNITE the union) as the Dignity at Work (bullying) campaign coordinator and was Special Adviser to Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell MP, Minister for the London 2012 Olympic Games. She is married to John Woodcock former Special Adviser to Rt Hon John Hutton, Secretary of State for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and now MP for Barrow-in-Furness
