The Afton School District is in
Affton, Missouri a municipality ofSt. Louis County.It is headquartered at the Affton School District Administration Building on Mackenzie Road. The Administration Building, formerly McKenzie School, is the hub of activity for all upper-administration officials for the four schools run by the district:Mesnier Primary School ,Gotsch Elementary School ,Merril J Rogers Middle School , andAffton High School . The school district, founded in 1855, celebrated its 150th Anniversary 2005. The first high school courses were offered in the basement of McKenzie School in 1930. The first high school graduation was held in 1934. The original section of the now old Affton High School was completed in 1936. This building, located across the street from the current Affton High School, is currently the Sanders Work Activity Center. The current Affton High School was constructed on 22 acres of land in 1955. Several additions including a new cafeteria, a second gym and a swimming pool were built over the years. The most recent renovations were complete to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the school district. These included a new sports complex and a Commons area. The Commons was funded by a $1 million donation from Bill and Nancy Thompson, alumni of the school. Affton High School, 8309 Mackenzie Road, houses between 800 and 900 students, grades 9-12 every year.The actor,
John Goodman , is a noted alumnus of AHS.Affton High School also has their own news channel called "Cougar News" which airs every Wednesday on channel 97 (closed-circuit television). Members include:Lovette Jackson, David Pitt, Veneta Rizvic, Adnan Zukic, Ajla Jujic, Tony Clawson, Eric Kuehnle, Keath Mees, Alex Wolf, Kelly Oster, John Wilbers, Joey Stevenski, and Randy Difani.
