List of mergers in Miyazaki Prefecture

The following is a list of mergers that occurred in the 2000s in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.

(as of March 31, 2007)

Mergers from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006

*On January 1, 2006 - the towns of Tano, Sadowara from Miyazaki District, and the town of Takaoka from Higashimorokata District merged into the city of Miyazaki.

*OnJanuary 1, 2006 - the towns of Takajo, Takazaki, Yamada and Yamanokuchi from Kitamorokata District merged with the old city of Miyakonojo to form the new city of Miyakonojo. ※New municipal organization

*On January 1, 2006 - the villages of Nango, Saigo and Kitago from Higashiusuki District merged to form the town of Misato.

*On February 20, 2006 - the towns of Kitaura and Kitakata from Higashiusuki District merged into the city of Nobeoka.

*On February 25, 2006 - the town of Togo from Higashiusuki District merged into the city of Hyūga.

*On March 20, 2006 - the village of Suki from Nishimorokata District merged with the old city of Kobayashi to form the new city of Kobayashi. ※New municipal organization

Mergers from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007

*On March 31, 2007 - the town of Kitagawa from Higashiusuki District merged into the city of "Nobeoka".

Planned mergers

*A planned merger of municipalities will be implemented on March 30, 2009; the city of Nichinan and the Minaminaka District towns of Kitagō and Nangō will merge into the new city of Nichinan. Minaminaka District will cease to exist.http://www.kokudo.or.jp/new/cities/sub/kyusyu/45.htm]
*A planned merger will be implemented on March 23, 2010. Kiyotake, Miyazaki District will merge into the City of Miyazaki. Miyazaki District will cease to exist. On the same day, two municipalities in Nishimorokata District, Nojiri and Takaharu, will merge into the city of Kobayashi. Nishimorokata District will cease to exist.
