Canadian Stroke Network

The Canadian Stroke Network (CSN) is a non-profit healthcare organization.

Research

CSN researchers are continually updating and expanding the Evidence-based Review of Stroke Rehabilitation (EBRSR), a remarkable resource that provides the most comprehensive and current review of the stroke rehabilitation research literature available anywhere in the world. They also continue to enhance StrokEngine, a Web-based educational tool which offers an “A to Z” listing of every stroke rehabilitation intervention currently available in Canada.

The Canadian Stroke Network funds the Registry of the Canadian Stroke Network. Since its inception in 2001, the Registry has, through reshaping care, evaluating the system of stroke care and providing valuable research data, delivered vital information to Canadian researchers, policymakers and health-care providers.

The CSN, in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, is also responsible for the production of Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care 2006, as part of the Canadian Stroke Strategy. The document has been posted on both the Canadian Stroke Strategy and Canadian Stroke Network websites.

Training & Outreach

The Canadian Stroke Network is a national leader in raising awareness about the health risks of excessive sodium consumption. The Network has publicized findings from recent studies involving CSN researchers and, with its partners, has successfully urged Health Canada to include information about salt in Canada’s Food Guide.

The CSN co-sponsors the National Stroke Rehabilitation Conference, and many other meetings, workshops and public lectures to enhance training and to disseminate the latest research findings on stroke.

The Network has developed the website for the Canadian Stoke Strategy, a joint initiative of the Canadian Stroke Network as well as the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, which aims to “help support an integrated approach to stroke prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in every province and territory” ["About Us." The Canadian Stroke Strategy. CNS & The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. 1 May 2008 ] .

Each year the CSN works in partnership with the Canadian Stroke Consortium to host the National Stroke Conference. This annual conference brings together more than 150 emergency doctors, internists and neurologists to coordinate stroke care.

The Canadian Stroke Network was instrumental in the creation of the National Stroke Nursing Council in 2005, which brings together stroke nurses across Canada to enhance education training and professional development. Stroke Nursing News is the monthly publication disseminated and funded by the Network.
