Middle Vaitarna Dam will be the tallest dam in Maharashtra, a state in India, planned to be built on the Vaitarna river in Thane's Kochale village by 2012. The dam will stand at a height of 102 meter when completed and will hold up 455 million liter of water vital for Mumbai's growing water demand.[1] The city receives only 3400 Mld (million liters per day) compared to the 4000 Mld of demand. The water is expected to be transported to Bhandup treatment plant with a 40 km pipeline and delivered to the city.
The second tallest dam in the state stands at 84 m height on pravara river in Ghatgar near Nashik.[2]now Municipal Engineers started the actual construction work of Dam and approach road.
