Michael James Wuertz (born December 15, 1978, in Austin, Minnesota) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He is known for his slider, which had the most strikeouts per swing in 2009.[1]

Baseball career
Chicago Cubs
Wuertz was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 11th round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his major league debut on April 5, 2004, against the Cincinnati Reds, throwing a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Wuertz has career averages of 9.66 strikeouts per nine innings and 7.43 hits per nine innings (as of August 13, 2011).
Oakland Athletics
On February 2, 2009, Wuertz was traded to the Oakland Athletics for minor leaguers Richie Robnett and Justin Sellers.[2] He was released on October 25, 2011, after three seasons in Oakland.
