*January 1 - Major League Baseball will launch its own channel MLB Network on cable and satellite systems in the USA, the last major American sports league to do so.
*April 13 - Citi Field will open, replacing Shea Stadium as home of the New York Mets.
*April 16 - New Yankee Stadium will open, replacing the current Yankee Stadium.
*July 14 - The 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

*The Florida State League will hold the 48th annual Florida State League All-Star Game at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida-- home of the Minnesota Twins' Advanced-A affiliate, the Fort Myers Miracle.

International

*March 5-23 - 2009 World Baseball Classic
*June 15-21 - 2009 European Cup
*September 9-27 - 2009 Baseball World Cup to be held across Europe, with the finals in Rome, Italy.
