ADAM (company)

ADAM is a clothing line designed by Adam Lippes.

History of ADAM Adam Lippes

ADAM, originally adampluseve, was founded in 2004 by Adam Lippes, the former Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta. The line launched in Spring 2004, starting as a luxury basics line and later expanding into a full collection of sportswear for men and women. The line includes knits, dresses and outwear. As Adam Lippes explained, the idea for the brand was "to create a line of wearable yet luxurious cotton basics. It was a way to fuse fashion with the perfect white tee. I wanted to create a super-refined and impeccably-fit t-shirt brand for men and women. ADAM opened its first store on December 4th 2007 in the Meatpacking District at 678 Hudson Street in New York City and is aiming to open additional stores in Miami, L.A. and London [http://www.dnrnews.com/site/article.php?id=1100 Lipke David, Adam Store Bows in New York City, accessed 29 April 2008] ] . The boutique has a large range of women's sportswear, basics and contemporary fashion, as well as vintage furniture, books, jewelry, collectibles and lifestyle items.

Adam Lippes explained that he "wanted the store to feel like home – very comfortable an cozy, with lots of places to sit." The boutique was designed in collaboration with Filipe Pereira.

In May 2006 Adam Lippes appeared on Oprah to talk about his line, then adampluseve (now ADAM). The appearance on Oprah led to a large boost in sales, as well as the name change from adampluseve to ADAM. The Spring 2008 collection was the first to appear under the brand name ADAM. The ADAM brand is currently sold in around 250 stores worldwide including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale's, as well as on the website, ShopAdam.com and with other online retailers including ShopBop, Bare Necessities and Vivre.com. In early 2008, Adam received a large investment from the newly developed Atelier Fund, whose principal investor is Compagnie Financière Richemont, owner of Chloe, Cartier, Montblanc and Dunhill. The first runway shows were the Spring and Fall 2008 shows. It was most recently announced that Adam Lippes would be doing two apparel collections for the Spanish brand Mango for women and men in the spring and fall of 2009.

ADAM on Oprah

Adam Lippes, the designer of ADAM, appeared on Oprah on the May 4th 2006 episode of "Moneymaking Ideas That Made Millions". The episode featured items from the spring collection including T-shirts, cashmere sweaters, tuxedo pants and a safari jacket. Oprah declared the line one of her favorites in 2007. The appearance on Oprah drove $500,000 in sales the following week.
