- Phra Lak Phra Lam
"Phra Lak Phra Ram", pronounced [IPA|pʰaː IPA|lɑk IPA|pʰaː IPA|raːm] (in Lao script: ພຣະລັກພຣະຣາມ), is the
Lao version ofIndia 's "Ramayana ". The title comes from the Lao names forLakshmana andRama . There are several versions of this story, each slightly different but also similar to the "Ramakien " in Thailand.Originally written on palm leaf manuscripts, the story of "Phra Lak Phra ram" has also been adapted to
Lao ballet where it is known by the same title. The story is considered by Laotians to be aJataka tale and regarded as very sacred. It is also believed that Prince Rama is actually anincarnation of the Buddha contrary to other versions which traditionally regard Rama as an incarnation ofVishnu .Characters
