Georgios II (c.
969 ) was ruler of theNubia n kingdom ofMakuria . When Jawhar, the governor ofEgypt , sent a mission to receive thebaqt , he included an invitation to Georgios to embraceIslam . While Georgios paid the baqt, he declined to leaveChristianity .1Georgios also intervened successfully on behalf of the unnamed ruler of Ethiopia, and persuaded Patriarch Philotheos of Alexandria to ordain a new "
abuna " ormetropolitan bishop , Daniel, for theEthiopian Orthodox Church after an interregnum of many years.2References
