History
Ernst Schoen-René formed the label in 1993 with the release of Skinhead Magnet's 10" EP. New Disorder has put out punk rock records, but over time expanded its scope to include various types of hip hop, electronica, and hardcore punk.
New Disorder Records quickly became well associated in the San Francisco Bay Area punk scene for its pranks. Ernst, with bands on his roster, would often pull pranks on other Bay Area artists. This often led New Disorder bands getting jumped at shows, or New Disorder releases getting pushed back.[1]
In a 2000 prank designed to cash in on the growing popularity of punk rock, the record label, along with the entire back catalog, was put up for sale for a 5 million dollars, or best offer. The only offer submitted was $3.50, and the label was not sold.[2]
