Kagando Hospital

Kagando Hospital

Kagando Hospital is a Christian Missionary Hospital in the district of Kasese in Southwest Uganda. It overlooks the Rwenzori mountains.

The hospital began as Kagando Rural Development Center in 1965. This was originally primarily for lepers through the work of the African Inland Mission. The hospital has 200 beds and includes pediatric, male and female medical and surgical wards and maternity, leprosy and tuberculosis units. The hospital treats around 30,000 outpatients and 17,000 inpatients each year. Its staff consist of 2 surgeons, 2 physicians, an anaesthetist and a physiotherapist. It is also home to a very active Ugandan nursing school.

Every morning at 8 am in the chapel there is a service for all doctors, nurses, nursing students and electives, in which the hospital patients and local issues are prayed for. After which everyone goes to do their work.

Kagando hospital is regularly chosen by medical students as a place where they may volunteer to offer their 'elective' - part of their training which involves work overseas.
