St John's Estate

St John's Estate

St John's Estate in Cubitt Town was a housing scheme developed by Poplar Borough Council following the Second World War.

John Betjeman described it as "one of the best new housing estates I have seen since the war, comparable with Lansbury, intimately proportioned, cheerful and airy yet London-like" [ "Betjeman's London", (1988) p 178]
