Solntsevo District

Solntsevo ( _ru. Со́лнцево) is a district in Western Administrative Okrug of the Russian capital city of Moscow.

It originated in 1938 as a dacha settlement and was named after the Russian word for Sun: _ru. солнце ("solntse"). It used to be a separate town from 1971. Since May 1984 it has been included into Moscow.

Solntsevo has given its name to a major organisation of organized crime, the Solntsevskaya bratva. The former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov and a 2008 presidenla election candidate Andrei Bogdanov are natives of Solntsevo.
