Construction career

Lipford was born in Marianna, Florida. At the age of 9, Danny got the home improvement bug and bought his first tool, a jigsaw from a mail order catalogue. He moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1975 to attend the University of South Alabama but his side job as a handyman turned into a full-time passion. In 1978, he started his remodeling business, Lipford Construction, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008.[3]

Today's Homeowner with Danny Lipford

In 1998, Lipford was hosting a cable show called Remodeling Today in Mobile, Alabama when he was approached by the Times-Mirror magazine Today's Homeowner to expand his show nationally. The TV show was retooled and renamed Today's Homeowner with Danny Lipford and jumped from 28 to 100 markets in six months. Lipford also contributed a regular monthly column to the magazine.

In 2001, however, Time Warner, Inc. bought Times Mirror and disbanded the magazine, Lipford took over the show again.[4]

Today, the weekly show airs on over 200 stations nationwide and features popular renovation projects, DIY projects, home trends and products. It also features the regular segments "Best New Products", "Simple Solutions" and "Thinking Green". Lipford also launched a companion website, www.dannylipford.com, in 2001.

The Weather Channel

In 2000, Lipford joined The Weather Channel as their home improvement expert. In daily short segments broadcast throughout the week, he offers advice and guidance on a variety of home topics. Each Saturday morning he also hosts The Home Depot Project of the Week, highlighting the designs, materials and decisions that are involved in a variety of indoor and outdoor projects.

Lipford also covers weather-related home topics for the Weather Channel including hurricane preparation tips, and recovering from a tornado. He has also appeared live from across the country for special first day of the season broadcasts from Traverse City, Michigan, Fish Creek, Wisconsin, and other locations.[5]

The Early Show on CBS

Lipford has been the home improvement contributor to The Early Show on CBS for over a decade. In short segments, he demonstrates a variety of how-to projects in the studio[6] and on location and has appeared live from the floor of industry trade shows including the International Builders' Show and the Kitchen and Bath Show.

Homefront with Danny Lipford

In 2009, Lipford took over the radio show Homefront after the death of longtime host and founder Don Zeman. Along with co-host Allen Lyle, Lipford interviews special guests, answers caller questions and shares tales from the world of home improvement on this two-hour syndicated show.
