Richard Rose (born 8 April 1933) is an American political scientist who is currently Director of the Centre for the Study of Public Policy and
Professor of Politics at theUniversity of Aberdeen ,Scotland . He studied as an undergraduate atJohns Hopkins University and completed hisPhD at theUniversity of Oxford .cite web|url=http://www.abdn.ac.uk/cspp/rrcv.shtml|title=Professor Richard Rose|publisher=Centre for the Study of Public Policy, University of Aberdeen|accessdate=2008-04-10] He has conducted research on a wide range of topics, including the Northern Ireland conflict,EU enlargement ,democratisation ,elections andvoting . He was formerly Professor of Politics at theUniversity of Strathclyde , a position he held from 1966 to 2005, andLecturer in Government at theUniversity of Manchester , from 1961 to 1966.Rose was made a Foreign Member of the
Finnish Academy of Science and Letters in 1985, Honorary Vice President of thePolitical Studies Association in 1986, aFellow of theBritish Academy in 1992, an Honorary Foreign Member of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1994, and a Fellow of theAcademy of Learned Societies for the Social Sciences in 2000. In 2000, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Political Studies Association.
