United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 12.7square mile s (33.0km² ), of which, 12.4 square miles (32.0 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) of it (2.90%) is water.History
Ashwaubenon takes its name from
Chief Ashwaubamy , aSioux chief that controlled the land and resources in the area in the early 1880's. Eventually the US Military bought most of the west side ofGreen Bay, Wisconsin from the Sioux in the 1850's and 60's, except the area that would later become Ashwaubenon. That land still belonged to Chief Ashwaubamy's two daughters until they began selling it to local farmers and landowners in the late 1800's.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 17,634 people, 7,137 households, and 4,667 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,425.5 people per square mile (550.4/km²). There were 7,260 housing units at an average density of 586.9/sq mi (226.6/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.07% White, 0.65% African American, 1.25% Native American, 1.81% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.15% of the population.There were 7,137 households out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the village the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $48,353, and the median income for a family was $62,186. Males had a median income of $41,024 versus $26,070 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $23,539. About 3.4% of families and 4.0% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 4.5% of those under age 18 and 3.5% of those age 65 or over.Schools

Ashwaubenon School District comprises one pre-school/kindergarten school, Cormier School, two elementary schools, Valley View and Pioneer School, one middle school, Parkview, and one high school,Ashwaubenon High School (AHS). AHS offers manyAdvanced Placement (AP) classes such as History, Art History, Chemistry, and U.S. Government. They also offer English 101 and 150 throughSt. Norbert College . The AHS marching band has an excellent reputation nationwide, performing at the 2001 Rose Bowl Parade, St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York, and in Hawaii in 2005, as does the award winning choir who has performed inDisney World ,New Orleans , andNew York City . The AHS football team has also been very successful, having won the state championship in 1996, 2000, 2001, and 2005. The football team is the most successful high school football team in the state for the last 15 years. The AHS softball team has made more appearances in the state tournament than any other Wisconsin school with 16 trips to state. Ashwaubenon High School is the only school in the state to win three state championships in one year. In the 2005 - 2006 year the football, girls basketball, and softball teams all won state.Attractions

Lambeau Field , home of theGreen Bay Packers is carved out of a piece of the village of Ashwaubenon, which borders it on three sides. The outdoor practice fields andDon Hutson Center are all in Ashwaubenon. The Packers Hall of Fame was in Ashwaubenon until the latest remodeling.
