Daniel Kraemer

Daniel Kraemer (1816–1882) was the first English-speaking pioneer to settle Placentia, California.

Born in Bavaria, Germany on November 16, 1816, he emigrated to the United States in 1838, apparently settling in Illinois. He came to what is today known as Placentia in 1865, and bought 3,900 acres (16 km²) of land and the adobe (built in 1837) of the Ontiveros family. Two years later (1867), he traveled to Illinois and returned with his family. Daniel Kraemer had two prominent sons, Benjamin and Samuel. Samuel Kraemer was to substantially increase his inheritance from his father, not only through natural shrewdness but also by marriage to Angelina Yorba, who brought lands of her own as inheritance of the great Yorba rancho lands.
