Near where the Winchester Turnpike crossed the Charlestown Road, a blacksmith and a tavern were opened after the Revolution. On account of the quarrels and fistfights that would regularly occur among the young men who drank at this tavern (where now stands the Battletown Inn), the impromptu village received its first, informal name: "Battletown". One of the tavern's frequent (and reputedly most quarrelsome) patrons was war hero
Daniel Morgan , who lived in the area, at Saratoga, from 1782. It was established as the town of Berryville in January 1798 on land belonging to Benjamin Berry and Sarah Stribling.Notable buildings or structures in Berryville
