History
Cyber Village Academy was founded in February of 1997 with the charter to serve the needs of chronically ill and home-bound students in the Minneapolis & St. Paul metro areas and authorized by the Minneapolis Independent School District. It now serves a variety of families in Minnesota with an emphasis on Gifted/Talented and Twice Exceptional students.
Campus
Cyber Village Academy shares a building with Talmud Torah of St. Paul for its on campus classes. Shared spaces include the library, gymnasium, art room, stage, one computer lab and science lab. The building was originally build as a Works Progress Administration project. Grounds include a basketball court, playground, and soccer field.
Curriculum
Cyber Village Academy offers three education options:
1) Fusion Program, Grades 4-8 uses a hybrid approach: 4th - 8th grade students spend 3 days on campus and 2 days on-line each week. International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) -- CVA is an authorized IB World School (2008). Courses are teacher designed according to MYP standards and practices and aligned with Minnesota and National Standards. The school’s Middle Years Program serves Fusion Program students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
2) Program for Accelerated Studies using Computer-Assisted Learning (PASCAL) -- 100% on line using OdysseyWare web based software supported by licensed teachers and aligned to Minnesota standards. Contact with teachers is via campus visit, telephone, email & skype. This program is available to residents of Minnesota in 3rd - 8th grade.
3) High School to College -- 9th through 12th grade blend of teacher designed on-line and on-campus courses aligned with Minnesota and National Standards. 9th and 10th grade students study on campus M-T, then in a combination of on line coursework and internships W-F. During 11th and 12th grade students may take college courses through the Post Secondary Enrollment Options.
