Warren Covington (born
August 7 ,1921 ,Philadelphia ) is an Americanjazz trombonist. He was active as asession musician , arranger, and bandleader throughout his career.Covington played early on with
Isham Jones (1939), then withLes Brown andGene Ames in the early 1940s. Following this he became a staff musician forCBS radio. In 1946-47 he ledThe Commanders , then began playing withTommy Dorsey in 1950. After Dorsey's death in 1958, Covington took the helm of his ensemble, touring with them from 1961 well into the 1970s. Among his hits with this group was "Tea for Two Cha Cha". Covington also backedCharles Mingus ,Randy Weston ,Bobby Hackett , andGeorge Benson onbig band recordings, and did a number of film soundtracks.Discography
