Nicolas Sahnoun (born 3 September 1980 in Bordeaux) is a French footballer of Algerian descent, who plays as a midfielder.

Football career

Sahnoun emerged through local FC Girondins de Bordeaux's youth ranks, but appeared sparingly for its first team during his spell as a senior, also being loaned twice, to Fulham in England, which he helped promote to the Premier League for the first time ever, repeating the feat back in his country with Ligue 2 outfit AC Ajaccio.

In January 2004, aged 23, Sahnoun moved to Spain, after signing with level two club UD Almería, where he would play for one 1/2 seasons. Subsequently, he returned to France, playing three seasons - one 1/2 apiece - with second division sides Stade Brestois 29 and Dijon FCO.

Sahnoun achieved his third second division promotion in the 2008–09 season, with Montpellier HSC, but appeared rarely for the Rolland Courbis-led team (also his manager at Bordeaux), and left for Racing de Ferrol in the Spanish third level for one season, on loan, after which he was released by the Hérault side.

Personal

Sahnoun's father, Omar, was also a footballer, and a midfielder. Having played mainly for FC Nantes, he also spent one season at Bordeaux, during which he would die from a heart attack at only 24, three months before his son was born.
