He was born in New York City to Argentine parents, Julio and Myriam. He is a graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
He now lives with his partner, screenwriter Don Roos, and they have two children, Eliza and Jonah.
Dan was the writer, producer and star of the 2001 Lions Gate romantic comedy All Over the Guy.
He has appeared in episodes of many popular television series, including Curb Your Enthusiasm, Weeds, Friends, NYPD Blue, That '80s Show, Frasier, and Will & Grace, as well as an episode of Grey's Anatomy.
He executive produced and acted in the 2005 HBO series The Comeback along with his producing partner, actress Lisa Kudrow.
In 2008, Dan and Lisa Kudrow again partnered as producers for the innovative and largely improvisational web series, Web Therapy, in which Lisa starred and Dan also acted; Don Roos, Dan's partner, directed. The series attracted a gallery of guest stars, among them Bob Balaban, Courteney Cox, Selma Blair, Tim Bagley, Julie Clair, Alan Cumming, Rashida Jones, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jane Lynch, Michael McDonald, Molly Shannon and Steven Weber.
Web Therapy continued for three seasons on the L Studio and in April 2010 Showtime announced the network would begin airing 30-minute episodes in 2011. Meryl Streep is to be one of the guest actors in Season 4. The first three seasons are available for download on iTunes.
