Saxon triangle

Saxon triangle

The Saxon triangle is a metropolitan area of Germany consisting of the cities of Chemnitz, Dresden, Halle, Leipzig and Zwickau. These cities are arranged into three agglomeration areas. The metropolitan area is characterized by long distances between the agglomeration areas, which can be seen as the corners of the triangle. Other large towns include Altenburg, Freiberg, Meißen, Pirna and Riesa. The population of the area is about 3,200,000 and about 1,800,000 in the three agglomerations.

The Saxon triangle is roughly 120 km south of Berlin, the capital city of Germany, and about 140 km north of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.
