John A. Gotti

John A. Gotti

John Angelo Gotti or Junior Gotti (born February 14, 1964) is a New York City mobster who during much of the 1990s led the Gambino crime family of Cosa Nostra for his imprisoned father John Gotti, who died in 2002.

The elder John Gotti demoralized the Gambino crews by imposing his son as a stooge leader. He revealed a troubled relationship with his father in a recorded conversation, decrying the mafia life he allegedly grew to detest. "I know my father loved me, but I got to question how much, to put me with all these wolves. This is the world you put your kid in? So much treachery.... My father couldn't have loved me, to push me into this life." [http://www.wnbc.com/news/17096116/detail.html?dl=mainclick] Gotti has two sisters, Victoria and Angela. He also had two brothers, Frank and Peter, though Frank was struck by a car during childhood and killed. In 1990, Gotti married Kimberly Albanese, daughter of Gambino crime family] mobster Phillip Albanese. Gotti lives in Long Island.

In 1999, Gotti pleaded guilty to racketeering crimes including bribery, extortion, gambling and fraud. He was sentenced to 77 months in prison and was released in 2005. He has however three times escaped conviction in Manhattan on racketeering charges linked to an alleged plot to kidnap Curtis Sliwa, the founder of Guardian Angels. Sliwa, a popular radio talk show host, had angered the Gotti Family by denouncing the Gambino Godfather as "Public Enemy Number One" during the dark days when Gotti and his crew roamed - and ruled - New York City at will. Gotti was tried three times for racketeering and conspiracy; each resulted in mistrial, the last in 2006. [ http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article4465033.ece ]

On August 5, 2008 Gotti was arrested and indicted on conspiracy charges in Florida, linking him to large-scale cocaine trafficking and the slayings of three New York men in the late 1980s and early 1990s. [ http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/G/GOTTI_ARREST?SITE=VARIT&SECTION=US ]

As of October 2008, Gotti is listed as "in transit" with the Federal correction system.
