Louise is a census-designated place (CDP) in Wharton County, Texas, United States. The population was 977 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Louise is located at coor dms|29|6|42|N|96|24|37|W|city (29.111539, -96.410223)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.6 square miles (17.2 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 977 people, 342 households, and 255 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 147.1 people per square mile (56.8/km²). There were 390 housing units at an average density of 58.7/sq mi (22.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 78.81% White, 5.42% African American, 0.10% Native American, 14.12% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 36.75% of the population.

There were 342 households out of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.1% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% were non-families. 21.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.37.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $27,750, and the median income for a family was $33,750. Males had a median income of $30,272 versus $17,159 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $15,442. About 10.2% of families and 15.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.2% of those under age 18 and 5.8% of those age 65 or over.
