Coat of arms of Southern Sudan

Southern Sudan is an autonomous region of the Sudan established following a 2005 peace agreement. The government of Southern Sudan uses a seal that depicts the coat of arms of Sudan surrounded by the legends "GOVERNMENT OF SOUTHERN SUDAN" AND "GOSS". [http://www.gossmission.org/goss/] The arms of Sudan depict a Secretary Bird bearing a traditional shield. Two scrolls are placed on the arms; the upper one displays the national motto, "Al-nasr lana" ('Victory is ours'), and the lower one displays the title of the state, "Jumhuriyat as-Sudan" ('Republic of Sudan').
