Swami Jyotirmayananda

Swami Jyotirmayananda was born in Dumari, Saran District, Bihar, India on 3 February 1931. He is a prominent, current day teacher of spiritual Hindu philosophy, and author of over 40 books [http://www.yrf.org/bookform.html Online Book Store on All Aspects of Yoga Philosophy! ] ] on Vedanta, Yoga and several other topics. He was a disciple of the late Swami Sivananda, serving as a religious professor at the Sivananda Ashram [ [http://www.sivananda.org/ Sivananda Om Page ] ] in Rishikesh for nine years. Swami Jyotir Maya Nanda is now president of Yoga Research Foundation in Miami, Florida.

Early life

Swami Jyotirmayananda lived his early childhood in the northern province sanctified by Lord Buddha. While pursuing his education at the Science College of Patna University at 18 years old, he read Swami Sivananda's book "Mind, Its Mysteries and Control" [ [http://sivanandadlshq.org/download/mind.pdf Mind-Its Mysteries and Control ] ] , and when Swami Sivananda visited Patna in September, 1950, he had his first Darshana at Patna.

Teachings

After being granted Sannyasa by Sri Gurudev in 1954, he became the editor of the "Hindi journal of the Society Yoga-Vedanta" [ [http://www.divinelifesociety.org/graphics/information/sivananda_disciples/introduction.html Introduction ] ] and also conducted daily classes on Yoga Vasishtha. He frequently lectured at India Vedanta Conferences in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Delhi and other parts of India.

In tireless service of his Guru, Sri Swami Sivananda Maharaj, Swamiji taught at the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy as a professor of religion. In addition to giving lectures on the Upanishads, Raja Yoga and all the important scriptures of India, he was the editor of the "Yoga Vedanta Journal".

In 1962, Swami Jyotir Maya Nanda headed the Temple of the Eternal Religion of India in Puerto Rico. Swamiji presented classroom lectures, as well as weekly radio lectures. These were held in both English and Spanish. He also made numerous TV appearances. Publications

Swami Jyotirmayananda wrote over 40 books emphasizing yoga philosophy in everyday life, helping people understand how to works towards a goal of attaining self-realization.
