University of Exeter School of Business and Economics

, and provides higher education in business, economics, finance, accounting, management and leadership programmes for undergraduates, postgraduate masters students (including Master of Business Administration) and business professionals. [] , and is 2007 Times Higher Education Supplement University of the Year [] .

Mission of the School

The School was created to form a three-fold mission: First, to advance research, scholarship and learning in accounting, business and economics of the highest international standing. Second to provide high quality education at undergraduate, postgraduate and post-experience levels. Third to be a business resource for the South-West of England.

History

The University began offering an MBA in 1988, with the formation of the Centre for Management Studies. In 1997 the Centre was merged with the Departments of Economics, Accounting and Finance to form the School of Business and Economics, under the headship of Martin Timbrell. In 2002 Professor Paul Draper became Head of School, and continues in this post to the present day. At the time of its formation, the School employed 38 full-time academics, and in February 2008, this number had risen to 63. []

Relationship with University of Exeter

The School of Business and Economics is the second-largest of 14 Schools within the University of Exeter. It is directly responsible for all teaching and planning in its own area, and is required to produce an ‘Education Plan’, a ‘Research and Development Plan’, a ‘Financial Plan’, a ‘Staff Plan’ and an ‘External Affairs’ plan for approval by the University’s executive function.
