British Tamil is a phenomenon that has been occurring for decades, and refers to the immigration of Tamil people from India and from the South Asian island nation of Sri Lanka. Today, a large number of British citizens migrated from Sri Lanka or are descended from Sri Lankan migrants.Tamils in the UK are mainly found living in its capital city, London. In 2001, 66,330 Sri Lankan born people were residing in the United Kingdom (49,932 in London).
