Geography

Koutala is located north of Kalamata, in the sides which characterizes the Western Taygetos. It is built in the north hill which protected the village from the views of the port of Kalamata which did not appear from the pirates, one of the hilltops which sees the entire Messenian Gulf and the Messenian plain. With the same thing (behind the hill) is built along with the villages of Kalamata including Kato Karveli, Elaiochori, etc. Northeast are the mountainous farming areas which belongs to Artemissia with the name Rogkozonitsa and Volimnos. North is Profitis Ilias and west with Asprochoma and Thouria.

History

The village was the villages of Alagonia and the same with Artemissia which had the same area in which the optic touch with Kalamata, Kastro are astonishing. Koutala was ruled by the Ottoman Turks, it became a part of Greece after the Greek War of Independence. It adopted its current name in the early 20th century. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium.

Routes

The route from Kalamata today are connected with pavement since the 1960s, it passes in the area of Profitis Ilias and enters the villages, it has access with Kalamata, the fields and the sea with an aerial view.

Koutala has a church, a square ("plateia"). Its nearest school, gymnasium (middle school), lyceum (secondary school) are near the area.
