Geography
Profitis Ilias is located north of
Kalamata , in the sides which characterizes the WesternTaygetos . It is built in the north hill which protected the village from the views of the port of Kalamata which did not appear from the pirates, one of the hilltops which sees the entireMessenian Gulf and the Messenian plain. With the same thing (behind the hill) is built along with the villages ofKalamata includingKato Karveli , Elaiochori, etc.Koutala is to the south, Leika to the east and Asprochoma to the west. That part characterizes theWestern Taygetos History
The area are famous for its asylum, sanatorium and "stupidly" which are said by Kalamatinoi. It has a trail station for Koutala and for
Rogkozonitsa mountains which is part of Artemissia.Profitis Ilias was ruled by the Ottoman Turks, it became a part of
Greece after theGreek War of Independence . It adopted its current name in the early 20th century. AfterWorld War II and theGreek Civil War , its buildings were rebuilt. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. The area was felt by the 1986 earthquake that also happened in Kalamata.Other
