The population was 804 at the 2000 census.Iowa Colony was once known as a major speed trap along State Highway 288, as it has five short areas (fingers) of its city limits that cross over 288. This allowed the Iowa Colony Police to consider speeders crossing through these fingers as ticketable. Iowa Colony is now patrolled by the Manvel Police Department and Brazoria County Sherriff's Office.

United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 5.8square mile s (14.9km² ), of which, 5.8 square miles (14.9 km²) of it is land and 0.17% is water.Manvel Police
On January 14,2008 the city council of Manvel approved an inter-local agreement was approved between the city of Manvel and Iowa Colony in which Manvel Police will be available to be dispatch to Iowa Colony for a $5,000 yearly fee. According to Manvel Police Chief Garcia they expect to have one emergency call per month.
Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 804 people, 279 households, and 219 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 139.7 people per square mile (53.9/km²). There were 302 housing units at an average density of 52.5/sq mi (20.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 73.01% White, 6.72% African American, 0.12% Native American, 7.34% Asian, 11.19% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 25.12% of the population.There were 279 households out of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.2% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.5% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.29.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.0% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 103.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.7 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $47,019, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $40,313 versus $28,500 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $18,935. About 6.6% of families and 6.1% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 15.2% of those age 65 or over.Education
Students in Iowa Colony attend schools in the
Alvin Independent School District .Alvin High School served all Iowa Colony residents until Fall 2006, whenManvel High School opened to immediately accept 9th and 10th grades and phase in 11th and 12th grades in two years.Additionally,
