SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (tsx|SNC) is a large Canadian
engineeringfirm. One of the ten largest engineering firms in the world, it is based in Montreal, Quebec.
The company was originally established by Arthur Surveyer in 1911. Surveyer went on to form a
partnershipwith Emil Nenniger and Georges Chênevert known as "Surveyer, Nenniger & Chênevert". This was eventually abbreviated to "SNC". In 1991, SNC merged with another of the largest Canadian engineering firms, "Lavalin" (created in 1936 by Lalonde & Valois, and headed since 1962 by the Lamarre family) to become "SNC-Lavalin".
The company has interests in
transportation, construction, hydroelectricity, miningand metallurgy, oiland gas, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, defence, nuclear, environment, agriculture, pharmaceuticalsand telecommunications.
SNC-Lavalin sold its previously held subsidiary SNC technologies to General Dynamics Corp, one of the largest munition manufacturers in the world. SNC Tech have a contract with the U.S. Military to manufacture 500,000,000 bullets per year, for 12 years. Before the sale, activist campaigns had accused SNC-Lavalin of war crimes, and called for an end to the arms sales.
