Hitchcock is a town in Beadle County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 108 at the 2000 census.

Hitchcock co-ops with the near by town of Tulare for sports making them the Hitchcock/Tulare Patroits

Geography

Hitchcock is located at coor dms|44|37|48|N|98|24|37|W|city (44.630123, -98.410259)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.

Hitchcock has been assigned the ZIP code 57348 and the FIPS place code 29500.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 108 people, 52 households, and 31 families residing in the town. The population density was 404.3 people per square mile (154.4/km²). There were 61 housing units at an average density of 228.3/sq mi (87.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.07% White, and 0.93% from two or more races.

There were 52 households out of which 17.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 3.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% were non-families. 34.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.08 and the average family size was 2.69.

In the town the population was spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 19.4% from 25 to 44, 33.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 116.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $30,000, and the median income for a family was $44,167. Males had a median income of $21,667 versus $13,750 for females.
