enrollment_as_of=2006Richview Collegiate Institute is a secondary school in
Etobicoke , a suburb in the west end ofToronto, Ontario . It is in theToronto District School Board TDSB.The school was founded in
1958 . Richview’s Latin motto, "Monumentum Aere Perennius" means "a monument more lasting than bronze". Its traditional rival is theEtobicoke Collegiate Institute "Rams" to the south. Richview's current Principal is Joanne Zimny, and the two Vice Principals are Mrs. Ardelle and Donna Drummond.Reputation
Richview is well-known across Etobicoke and the TDSB for being a strong institution for both academics and athletics. About one-third of the students are enrolled in the extensive French Immersion program. Approximately 96 percent of students pursue post-secondary education. Richview is also one of the few remaining schools in Toronto that runs on a non-semestered, year-long schedule (meaning all classes last all year on an alternating day shedule). Most schools in Toronto offer semestered schedules in order to boost academic performance of their students.

Richview also has an elite power cheerleading team, which cheers at football games, and compete at a national level throughout the year.
The Richview baseball program is well known due to the emergence of Major League Baseball player, Joey Votto. The Baseball team had an excellent season in 2006, winning the West division title, after being winless in 2005. During the 2008 season, the baseball team persevered and defeated power house Birchmount Park to win the City Championships, the first in school history.
Along with these came an exceptional soccer season in 2006, almost reaching the finals.
Both Richview Basketball teams (Junior and Senior) were weak in 2007 .
Richview's Football teams are some of the better in Toronto, as both teams won their division and advanced to the cities.

For Grade Eight Students: Applying to Richview
Students wishing to apply under optional attendance must fill out a standard Optional Attendance form. There are no special requirements for optional attendance applicants. Richview Info nights are usually held in the middle of January, and applications are due February 1st. The application process goes as follows: If there are more applicants than there is space, a random draw will be held to determine which students can enroll. Otherwise, all applicants will be accepted, unless the school is deemed closed. As a warning, Richview is almost infamous for its denial of optional attendance applicants for the regular programs for the past several years. Nonetheless, school administrators highly encourage eighth graders to apply to this school, and to not be discouraged by stats.
