electricity utility for the southernBrazil ian state of Santa Catarina. In 2004 the company had around 1.8-million customers and sold around 12.9 TWh of electricity. It generates power from 12 plants, all of themhydroelectric , with installed capacity of around 83MW. The company also owns some 4,000 km of transmission lines and a 90,000 km distribution network. Celesc is headquartered in the Santa Catarina capital ofFlorianópolis .The state of Santa Catarina owns just over half of Celesc's stock, which is traded on
Bovespa . The stock is part of the Ibovespa index.At October, 2006, the company passed by a reorganization process, in which it was transformed into a "holding" that kepts the name Centrais Elétricas de Santa Catarina. Two new companies had been created, one of them responsible for the distribution (Celesc Distribuição) and another responsible for the generation of electric power (Celesc Geração).
