Video Symphony

Video Symphony TV & Film School began in the summer of 1994 in Pasadena, California, as a video equipment rental company and training center designed to meet the needs of the newly evolving digital post production industry. In September of that year, “Video Symphony” gained status as an Avid Authorized Education Center and began offering classes soon after. With growing demand for more classes and advanced training, Video Symphony pioneered the “Avid Bootcamp” concept by bundling classes and offering hands-on training on real world projects.

In June 1995, Video Symphony moved to a new facility in Burbank, California, and found even greater demand for its educational training services as the industry continued to shift to the digital realm. In 1996, the Education/Training Center split from its Avid rentals and Digital Doctors servicing sister companies, and added several new programs including Animation and 3D training. Bootcamps continued to be in demand and began starting on a monthly basis, and in May 1998, Video Symphony acquired a California Educational Training Panel (ETP) contract, which it maintains to this day.

During this year, Four Media Company (now Ascent Media Group) purchased the Video Symphony equipment rental business and Digital Doctors service company components of Video Symphony. The training/education company was renamed “Video Symphony Entertraining,” and became the exclusive operator under the name of “Video Symphony.”

Courses

Between 1997 and 2000, Video Symphony added several new programs, including Sound Editing and Mixing, Motion Graphics Design and 3D Animation. Digidesign’s Pro Tools certification programs, a motion graphics design curriculum, including Maya 3D, Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop programs, a Softimage 3D certification program were added to expand the program offerings. Introductory and advanced courses in Apple’s Final Cut Pro editing suite were also added to the roster as that technology gained favor in the industry.

Accreditation

Video Symphony obtained National Accreditation by ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training) in 2003. As demand for its entertainment post production training services grew, Video Symphony outgrew its original Burbank facility, and in 2006 moved to a new larger facility in downtown Burbank, where it resides at this time. In 2007, Video Symphony was approved to offer Federal Financial Aid (Stafford Loans and Pell Grants via FAFSA). Along with federal financial aid, other financing options are available to prospective students, including Sallie Mae loans, IATSE and NABET union subsidies, Vocational Rehabilitation, and G.I. Bill/V.A. funding.

Video Symphony has long been recognized as the world’s largest Avid training center, and has trained thousands of industry professionals working in the Hollywood entertainment community and around the world.
