Scott came from a musical family. His father, Nathan Scott, was a band leader best known for composing the theme for the television series, "Dragnet". Tom Scott's professional career began as a
teenager , as leader of ajazz ensemble Neoteric Trio, and then as a "first-call" (i.e. high-demand)session musician . He has dozens of solo recordings for which he collected thirteenGrammy nominations (three of which he won).
