The Chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox, by Barry Hughart, is the omnibus edition of all three of his novels in the series by the same name. The individual titles include:
The original version was published by the now-defunct Stars My Destination Books in both hardback and trade paperback. Later publication has been through Subterranean Press. Subterranean published two new editions of The Chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox in October, 2008 (ISBN 9781596062009). One of the editions, a slipcased version, includes the original draft for Bridge of Birds.[1].
Publishers Weekly quotes Master Li himself in describing reading this work as "wandering blindfolded through a myth devised by a maniac." They describe Master Li as "the greatest and most frequently intoxicated wise man in a colorful seventh century China that never was."[2]
