census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,052 people, 444 households, and 306 families residing in the borough. Thepopulation density was 995.9 people per square mile (383.2/km²). There were 478 housing units at an average density of 452.5/sq mi (174.1/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.86% White, 0.10% African American, 0.29% Asian, and 0.76% from two or more races.There were 444 households out of which 25.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.2% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the borough the population was spread out with 18.7% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.
