Early life
Dhinakaran was born on 1 July 1935, at Surandai in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.[3] He attended St. John`s college, Palayamkottai and subsequently was awarded a BSc degree in Mathematics from Madras University in 1955. In 1957, he joined and became an officer of the State Bank of India.[citation needed]
Public life
Dhinakaran left his bank job and began a public life as an evangelist on 10 October 1962.[4] He established the Jesus Calls ministry in Chennai.[citation needed] His first radio gospel broadcast was aired by FEBA Radio on 2 March 1972. The magazine, Jesus Calls, books and other printed media preaching his gospel messages were being published from May 1973. Audio cassettes and records were released worldwide in the 1980s. His gospel video programs are still broadcast on television in various languages around the world.[citation needed]
Dhinakaran also founded Karunya Institute of Technology in Coimbatore which later became Karunya University.[vague]
He was also called the "Apostle of India" in recent times and have organised many Christian meetings, prayer gatherings, which has drawn crowds up to 500000 people in many cities and towns of India.
