- Lamaze in India
Lamaze is a prepared childbirth technique developed in the 1940s by Frenchobstetrician Dr.Fernand Lamaze as an alternative to the use of medical intervention during labor.Although it has been practiced by some doctors, volunteers and others in India for several years, official Lamaze trained instructors have started providing classes for the true Lamaze techniques only recently.
Modern Lamaze childbirth classes teach expectant mothers breathing techniques and other ways to help with the entire process of childbirth, create awareness about pregnancy, living a healthy lifestyle for pregnancy, general tips for pregnancy and provide opportunities for participants to network with other pregnant women.
The philosophy is increasingly becoming relevant in India, specially in the metros, with the high rate of cesarean births being declared abnormal by
World Health Organisation .
