Varian Associates by Russell H. and Sigurd F. Varian,William Webster Hansen , andEdward Ginzton to sell theKlystron , the first tube which could generate electromagnetic waves at microwave frequencies, and other electromagnetic equipment. In 1999, it spun off its other businesses to concentrate on medical systems, and renamed itself to Varian Medical Systems.Corporate affairs
Varian corporate headquarters reside in Palo Alto, California. Timothy Guertin has been the CEO since 2006 when he replaced Richard M. Levy, who had been with Varian for 37 years and still serves as chairman of the board of directors. Guertin holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.
