Amanda Ripley is a senior writer at TIME magazine. She covers risk, terrorism and human behavior. Her 2008 book, "The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why" that explores how the brain works in disasters and how we can do better.

But most of Ripley's stories have been about terrorism or disasters. In 2005, Ripley covered Hurricanes Katrina and Rita from New Orleans, LA. She has also received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Newswomen's Club of New York and the Washington Monthly, and she is a two-timeLivingston Award finalist.
