In 1890 changes in population and boundaries led to the riding's renaming as Westminster, with the following year that riding being subdivided into Westminster-Chilliwhack, Westminster-Delta, Westminster-Dewdney and Westminster-Richmond, which were to become a few elections later the Chilliwhack (later Chilliwack) Delta, and Richmond ridings. The core of the New Westminster urban area (then still separate from Vancouver's) continued to be represented by New Westminster City until 1916, when that riding was redistrubuted as a one-member seat from its maximum of three, and in the process it was given the old rural riding's name, "New Westminster".
